Immigration Help in Astoria, NY

If you are an undocumented alien / illegal immigrant living in Jackson Heights, Elmhurst Queens, Flushing or Astoria – new immigration laws can help you become a citizen faster!

Queens has one of the largest immigrant populations in the United States. According to QNS.com, “The most foreign-born residents in the city are from the Dominican Republic, followed by China, Mexico, Jamaica, Guyana, Ecuador, Haiti, Trinidad & Tobago, Bangladesh and India.”

Trump’s Muslim Travel Ban

According to several studies, immigration declined greatly during the Trump Administration, due to the restrictions the President signed into effect, like the “Muslim Ban”, for instance. Another reason for the decline in immigration to the U.S. was the Corona Virus Pandemic. Travel bans put a huge hamper on immigration, for obvious reasons.

Now, all of that is set to change with the Biden Administration calling for the Pathway to Citizenship Bill to pass. President Biden’s new proposals, if passed in congress, will overturn many of the restrictions put in place by Former President Donald Trump.

How Will The New Immigration Policies Affect Illegal Immigrants In Queens?

Humanitarian Changes To Trump’s Policies

Biden’s new laws call for a sweeping change in the way illegal immigrants are treated, in particular, they will address reuniting families who were separated at the border when entering the country. He is also planning to put a halt to the building of “The Wall”, as well as lifting the Muslim Travel Ban. People seeking asylum in the U.S. will be given greater consideration for citizenship.

Deportation Reform – DACA

What is DACA? DACA stands for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. These children are sometimes referred to as the “Dreamers”. President Obama signed the DACA law into effect in 2012. The purpose of this order was to protect young, undocumented children who were brought into the United States illegally, from deportation.  On Sept. 5, 2017, President Trump signed an Executive Order ending DACA.  Decisions were subsequently rendered by the Supreme Court in 2020, reversing the President’s order to repeal DACA. Vice President Kamala Harris is presently vowing to give the DACA Dreamers automatic green cards.

Due to the fact that a lot of immigrants in the country are presently here under TPS (Temporary Protected Status) and are apparently pitching in to help with pandemic relief, VP. Harris is also calling for them to get green cards immediately.

How Else Will President Biden’s New Policies Help Immigrants Living In Queens?
